DRUG dealers have been using the back streets of Wanstead as a place to do business because of its easy transport links with Forest Gate and Leytonstone, police have said.
The news comes as officers today revealed that 38 people have been caught with cannabis in a small area surrounding Aldersbrook Road and Wanstead Flats within the past six months alone.
Two further men have also been arrested by police for other drug offences.
It is thought that easy road links, coupled with the secluded nature of Wanstead Flats, have made the area an attractive place for dealing.
Police said many of those caught did not live in Redbridge.
PC Robert Douglas, of Wanstead Safer Neighbourhood Team, said the arrests would hopefully lead to a reduction in the problem.
He said: "We have been working to deter people from coming to the area."
