A CAT protection branch in Epping has issued a warning to gardeners that lilies can kill cats.
The group, based in Epping, is urging people to be aware of the risk from the plants which are extremely toxic to cats and can cause vomiting, blindness, paralysis, coma and death.
Brenda Perridge, Branch Co-ordinator said that all parts of the plant are potentially poisonous including the leaves, pollen and flower.
She added: “We can't emphasise enough just how dangerous lilies can be to cats and we urge owners to be aware of these risks.
"Lily poisoning is one of the most common forms of poisoning in cats and every year people need to be reminded about this.”
But it is not just garden lilies that cat owners need to be aware of.
Ms Perridge added: “Lilies are becoming increasingly popular in bouquets bought from shops and supermarkets, and these can be just as lethal.”
