A MOTORIST was arrested for drink-driving in an early morning crackdown by Redbridge Police yesterday.
The joint operation took place around rush hour on A12 and A406, aimed at targeting excess speed and insurance fraud in the borough.
North East Traffic officers were joined by the Commercial Vehicle Unit, traffic wardens, Police Community Support Officers, Traffic Metropolitan Special Constabulary, Bike Safe team and Special Operations removal units.
In total five people were arrested, nine vehicles were seized and 56 drivers were reported for offences from speeding to driving in a dangerous condition.
Of those arrested, one motorist was breathalised and was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
Acting Police Sergeant Matthew Hardcastle of the North East Traffic Unit said: "The aim was to reduce the collisions within Redbridge Borough by using High Visibility Patrols in partnership with other MPS departments.
“The reduction of people Killed and Seriously injured on London's roads is our primary focus whether through enforcement of the THINK campaign or through other legislation.
“The arrest of someone for drink-driving clearly shows that this serious offence is committed at all times of the day.
“I would like to thank the officers employed on this operation for their hard work and professionalism."
