A TOTAL of seven men have been arrested in connection with a vicious street attack in Leytonstone.
A 24-year-old man was doused with acid before being stabbed in the back during the assault.
He suffered serious burns to his face and chest in the attack and is still fighting for his life in hospital.
If he survives, he could lose his sight.
Two men were originally arrested earlier this month and another five were arrested yesterday (Monday) in east London, north west London and Manchester.
The latest arrests include a 25-year-old, two 19-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a fifth man whose age has not been released.
One of the two 19-year-olds and the 16-year-old have been bailed, but the remaining three are still in custody.
An 18-year-old and a man in his 20s arrested earlier this month have also been bailed to return in early September.
The attack happened at about 2am on July 2 as the victim walked down Marchant Road.
He was approached by a gang who threw acid over him and stabbed him twice in the back.
He managed to escape and raise the alarm and his condition is now described as critical but stable.
The gang were reportedly wearing masks and gloves to protect themselves from being burned with the acid.
Officers from Waltham Forest CID are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and are still keeping an open mind about the motive.
