STEVE NORRIS, mayoral candidate for London, made a faux pas when he said this week that Ken Livingstone had never visited Waltham Forest in his term of office.

Mayor Ken made his first official tour of Waltham Forest on July 17 last year.

Mr Norris released details on Monday of Mr Livingstone's engagements over his first three years in office.

Speaking at the launch of the report, he said: "It is astonishing that there are huge parts of London that Livingstone has never been to in the whole of his first three years.

"The Mayor of London has a duty to represent every Londoner. This report proves that Livingstone rarely ventures outside Zone One.

"For most of London he is simply the invisible mayor. Little wonder that people feel he is not interested in the issues that affect them, like improving the Tube or making people feel safer.

"If you never get out of the office you can never hope to understand why people feel afraid to walk around town centres at night or are fed up with the Tube."

But last July last year, Mr Livingstone visited Rush Croft Secondary School, Chingford, to watch a football match between visually impaired children and presented teams with medals.

He also donned a hard hat in Walthamstow to walk around the site of mass redevelopment, and gave his backing to modernising the town centre and applauded its strong stance to save the borough's last cinema.

Mr Livingstone said during his visit: "Our aim is to create a hub of evening entertainment transforming Walthamstow into a lively, busy and compelling place to be."
