A WALTHAM Forest education chief has been promoted to a London-wide position within the Learning and Skills Council.
Verity Bullough, who is the executive director of the London North LSC, has been appointed operations director for London.
She has been promoted as part of an LSC shake-up and the introduction of a new regional team for London. Alongside her appointment, executive director of London Central for LSC Jacqui Henderson has also been made regional director.
The LSC is an organisation responsible for promoting skills and education development in England.
As operations director, Ms Bullough will be responsible for improving the LSC across the region but she will also retain her executive directorship of the local North London LSC to make sure she keeps her awareness of local issues and needs.
Ms Bullough said: "I'm pleased to be given the opportunity to contribute to the role of the Learning and Skills Council in raising education achievement and skill levels in London.
"There is no more exciting place to work than the capital and no greater challenge than the diversity of success and experience contained within it."
Mark Haysom, chief executive of LSC, says the council is committed to the promotion and development of strong regional partnerships.
He added: "The appointment of regional directors, each with extensive knowledge of the learning and skills sector, reflects this commitment.
"We are committed to continuing to develop the locality of our operations.
"The appointment of regional directors strengthens the role of our local LSCs, allowing for a more streamlined, manageable and responsive reporting structure that avoids additional bureaucracy.
"It will free up the front line giving additional strength and confidence to local decision making, resulting in truly local leadership delivering local solutions to local needs."
