POLICE volunteers in Waltham Forest will be taking part in a mobile phone marking day on Saturday, January 24.
Mobile phone marking is a security measure which taps the owner's postcode into the handset. This means that if the phone is lost, the owner can be traced and if it is stolen, police can tell whether the person in possession of the phone is the owner.
The volunteer police cadets will be marking the phones outside Sainsbury's in Walthamstow Avenue, Chingford, between 10am and 3pm and handing out crime prevention leaflets about disabling handsets and sim cards, which can easily be replaced on the black market.
