WAGN says sorry for trains that didn't stop TRAIN company WAGN has failed to come up with a logical explanation as to why rail passengers bound for Highams Park were left stranded in Chingford on Friday, January 9.
Train users at Walthamstow Central station faced a morning of disruption and a nightmare journey as they tried to get to Wood Street and Highams Park stations in time for work.
The 9.08am train from Liverpool Street to Chingford failed to turn up and the 9.23am service went straight through to Chingford without stopping despite an announcement saying it would call at Wood Street and Highams Park.
Passengers found themselves miles from their destinations and had to wait another 20 minutes before the next service from Chingford left.
One passenger said: "It took me an hour to get from Walthamstow Central to Highams Park. The 9.08am train did not turn up and when the 9.23am train arrived, a couple of minutes late, an announcement said it was calling at Highams Park, so I got on.
"I couldn't believe it when it sped through Wood Street and then Highams Park and I ended up in Chingford. There is no way I would have got on the train if I had known this. I was furious.
"There were a number of passengers who were left standing at Chingford station wondering why they were there and when I asked the train driver why the service had not stopped, he was rude and told me no announcement had been made.
"I ended up having to get the bus from Chingford to Highams Park."
It is believed some of the disruption was caused by trains running late out of Liverpool Street. But when asked by the Guardian why the service only called at Chingford, despite the announcement, a spokesman for WAGN could not come up with a logical explanation.
The comment the Guardian was given by WAGN was: "We acknowledge that this was not an acceptable level of service and we will look into what went on and make sure it will not happen again.
"We apologise to our customers."
