A GROUP of young people from a troubled Leyton estate are to make three-minute films on issues affecting their daily lives.
Residents of the Beaumont estate, aged 15 to 22, are to spend a day learning how to use cameras and create storyboards before filming their own movies.
Ebony Vincent, 28, of the Leyton Community Association (LCA), is co-ordinating the day.
Miss Vincent, who also lives on the estate, said: “It's a project called True Tube – there are hundreds of films from around the country.
“They're about issues which affect people's lives – they can be worldwide issues or local issues.”
A group of girls from the estate have decided to tackle the issue of teenage pregnancy and sexual health, while the boys are looking at knife crime and street violence.
Miss Vincent added: “The LCA was set up after CJ Hendricks was murdered – we wanted more activities happening locally for young people.”
The young people will create, film and edit their movies tomorrow (July 23) and will be presenting them at the Leyton Festival on September 13.
They will also be taking them to a film festival on the South Bank in November.
