THE "appalling" state of the South Woodford tube station underpass will be discussed at a meeting tonight.
Felicity Banks, who represents Roding ward, will address members of the London Transport Liaison Group in a bid to get some of the cash from a £1.7million regeneration project used to renovate the neglected subway that connects the two sides of George Lane.
Cllr Banks said: “Transport For London and the London Borough of Redbridge have given us some money to make life a bit better for the pedestrians in George Lane.
“But when you look at the link from the two sides it's pretty appalling.
“I think while they're making the whole street look better, why can't they do something with the subway?
“The paint is peeling off, the windows are covered in graffiti and broken and there are terrible stains up the walls from you-know-what.
“The council come and jet-wash the tiles when I complain but I think it's time they made life a bit better.”
The meeting will be held at Ilford Town Hall at 6pm tonight.
