A special display showing life in Epping Forest during the great war (1914-1918) has opened at the District museum in Waltham Abbey.
The show entitled: "The Great War" gives visitors an insight into life for everyday local people through one of history's darkest times.
There's a chance to find out more about the pilots of the 39 Home Defence Squadron, who were stationed at North Weald,how Waltham Abbey's special constabulary helped fight the war at home, and even visit life-sized replica of a front line trench.
Described at the time as "the war to end all wars", some 15 million people died in the four year battle between the triple entente - including Great Britain, Russia, France,Belgium, Italy and Japan, and the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Germany, Turkey, and Austria-Hungary.
The display will run until September 22 at the Epping Forest District Museum in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey.
Opening times are Mondays 2pm - 5pm, Tuesdays 12noon - 5pm, Fridays 2pm - 5pm, Saturdays 10am - 5pm, and Sundays 2pm - 5pm. Admission is free.
