Tottenham 1
Barcelona 1
(Wembley Cup)
TOTTENHAM recorded an encouraging draw against European champions Barcelona in the first game of the Wembley Cup.
Jake Livermore scored his first goal for the club eight minutes from time after Bojan had given Barca a first half lead.
Barcelona enjoyed some good early chances, with Eidur Gudjohnsen going close with an overhead kick, while Carlo Cudicini in the Spurs goal did well to turn Pedro Rogriguez' shot round the post.
The pressure eventually told on 35 minutes when Yaya Toure broke from midfield, evading challenges from Wilson Palacios and Vedran Corkula, before the ball broke for Bojan to fire home.
Spurs responded well however, as Luka Modric's shot was deflected onto the bar before Albert Jorquera's acrobatics denied Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
The second half started with several chances for both sides, but it was the introduction of Livermore that proved the difference.
Tom Huddlestone and Palacios made way for Jordan Bostock and Livermore, and the latter took just three minutes to make his mark.
A corner was played short to Assou-Ekotto and the left-back swung in a wicked cross that Livermore was able to nod in with a brave header.
