STAFF at Whipps Cross University Hospital have been recognised for long service in a special awards ceremony.
Those recognised include a couple, who met at the hospital and have worked there for a total of more than 90 years between them.
Derek and Sandra Finch served a total of 92 years at the hospital and were rewarded with a weekend break for two in Paris.
The awards ceremony, which is now in its second year, also included a short film, featuring some of those recognised for long service.
Charmaine Yankey, work/life balance and staff benefit advisor, said: “Recognising people’s commitment to an organisation is really important and is something we totally support here – we felt this couple needed something extra special to reflect our appreciation.”
A total of 56 staff received awards on the night, for 20, 30, 40 or 45 years of continued service at Whipps Cross.
Stephen Jacobs, chairman of the hospital trust board, said: “Like marathon runners, they have all shown amazing stamina, strength and endurance and I’d like to thank them all on behalf of the Whipps Cross community for their efforts and dedication.”
The evening also featured a 'WX Factor' competition with performances from staff and live music was provided by a band from Leyton Sixth Form College.
