A GOLFBALL stopped the jokes of comedian Stan Boardman, at least temporarily, as he took part in an annual fundraising tournament for the Epping based Rhys Daniels Trust.

Thirty nine teams of sponsored golfers teed off in the Costa del Sol, raising £150,000 between them.

Publicist Max Clifford helped organise the tournament for the Trust, which provides respite care for families of seriously ill children.

The trust was set up in memory of Epping brother and sister Charly and Rhys Daniels, who suffered from Late Infantile Batten's Disease which claimed their lives in 1999 and 1998 aged just eight and 11.

Celebrity golfers were among those taking on the 36-hole challenge, including Andy Gray, Gary McAllister, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Craig Fairbrass.

They competed for the coveted Rhys & Charly trophy- which was won by Bermondsey Lads Team 1 and Regency Building Services coming a close second.

Best individual prize went to Jason Stuart and best celebrity scorer was Craig Fairbrass.

The event ended with the popular Butterfly Ball at the Hotel Puente Romano in Marbella.

More than 400 guests, including Chris Eubank, were entertained by Stephen Lloyd Morgan, Austin Drage (X-Factor 2008) Tee Green and Masquerade.

The next big fundraiser will be held at the Woolston Manor Golf Club in Chigwell on October 9.
