FRANCES Martineau, a Walthamstow resident who runs a domestic violence unit, has been appointed a non-executive director of Whipps Cross University Hospital Trust board.

For the past five years, Ms Martineau has worked voluntarily for the London-wide strategic health authorities as lay chairwoman for the NHS complaints procedure.

She is service manager of Newham Council's domestic violence unit and also sits on the Greater London Authority's domestic violence forum.

She said: "I am really excited about being able to contribute to the work already being done at Whipps Cross, which in my view is an ever improving service being provided to the local community."

She was welcomed by board chairman Stephen Jacobs who commented: "Frances brings a wonderful blend of skills to assisting us in making our hospital one of the best in London."

Ms Martineau replaces Serene Martin whose term of office has now expired.

Other recent changes to the board include the re-appointment of Ros Levenson as a director and the imminent appointment of a new university/academic representative to success Professor Peter Kopelman.
