THE council is to investigate the possibility of installing chewing gum boards in Waltham Forest.
Used gum would be placed on the boards or in special bins in an attempt to clear the borough's streets of the nuisance.
The suggestion was made at a meeting before Christmas of the North Chingford Community Council.
Investigations have shown that a similar project in Bournemouth attracts an astonishing 1600 pieces of gum each week.
A council spokesman said: "A wall mounted gum bin costs approximately £95, but this does raise the issue of whose wall it should go on."
