STREET cleaners have not faced disciplinary action over public protests, a union representative has said.

Kevin Parslow, who is the Waltham Forest branch secretary of Unite for contracted services, said: “We haven't heard any more. There was a meeting yesterday (Tuesday) with Kier management and they did confirm there is no 'hit list'.”

Street cleaning staff who work for Kier said they feared action could be taken against them and that they could even lose their jobs following a protest over alleged bullying and victimisation.

A member of Kier's senior management was reportedly also present at the protest outside the town hall last week, making notes.

Mr Parslow added: “Kier said if such a list is found then immediate action will be taken.

“I will be keeping an eye on it and I've also enquired about disciplinary action.”

Staff have also made claims of late payments and shortfalls in wages and have said Kier removed all its agency workers in the borough.

They threatened strike action earlier this month but it has since been confirmed this will not go ahead.

The company, which has received numerous complaints about service since taking on the street service contract in 2008, has consistently denied problems with wages.

However, it has neither confirmed nor denied claims that agency staff were removed.

Kier has said it will not comment on the protests.
