MORE than 170 dedicated volunteers attended a special awards ceremony and reception.
Guests attending Woodford Green-based Jewish Care's afternoon event enjoyed tea and cakes while chatting to old friends and new.
Award winners were shortlisted by the volunteer coordinators, and chosen for their years of commitment and dedication to the centre.
The winners of the awards included Claire and Ivor Baylin, who have been volunteers at the centre for the past ten years, and help with many of activities throughout the week.
Claire welcomes people at the door and helps out in the dining room, while Ivor runs bowls and the famous afternoon quiz.
At this year’s Purim’s show, Claire dressed up as a cheer leader, while Ivor became a snake charmer for the afternoon, bringing a bit of fun to the show.
Redbridge JCC centre manager Richard Shone said: “The richness of what we do here is enhanced by our volunteers, and I have to say that as a member of staff, much of the direction that the centre takes is influenced by our volunteer force, who provide us with incredible support.”
