HIS looks may be out of this world, but ET is finding it tough to find a new home.
The Mexican hairless is one of only 27 of his kind in the UK, and was given to the RSPCA’s Hillside Kennels in Waltham Abbey after his elderly owner could not look after him any longer.
The unusual-looking animal, which is also known as the Xolo, was bred by the Aztecs who believed the dogs were sacred and that touching them could heal illness.
But sadly for ET that belief died out long ago, and now the aesthetically-challenged pooch is passed by when families visit the sanctuary in the hope of finding a new pet to take home.
The lonely four-year-old is still waiting for a home more than three months after arriving at the centre.
Kennel Manager Dawn Fields admitted his unusual looks may be putting potential families off.
She said: “He is a bit unusual looking, to be honest, he’s adorably ugly, he’s a hairless breed and that does seem to put a lot of people off, but it’s such a shame because he’s a great, friendly, lovely little dog.
“He doesn’t need any special care because he’s got no hair, but he does need to wear suncream in the summer otherwise he gets burnt, just like anyone else.
“ET would be ideal for anyone with young children, and is also used to cats, and is house trained.
“It’s very rare that we get such a good, well-behaved dog in the kennel.
“He always seems to get ignored by people, and it's really heartbreaking, because he’d make someone such a nice pet.
“He really is a funny little guy, very intelligent and affectionate.
“We just want to make sure he has a happy ending.”
