FAMILIES are making the most of the dry weather to take part in a community sports day today (Saturday).

The Beaumont Community Sports Day features arts and crafts stalls, as well as races for children and a friendly football match to take place at 5pm, the event is intended to be reminiscent of traditional sports days.

Voluntary worker and Beaumont Estate resident Kelly Eastmond-Jeffery said: "We've had an egg and spoon race and there's the football tournament as well.

"It's the kind of sports day that was around 10 years ago - the kind you maybe miss out on now.

"There are lots of children here, having lots of fun."

The event also featured an inflatable "gladiator" contest in which participants battled each other with foam batons.

Miss Beaumont-Jeffery works for the Leyton Community Association and organised the day.

The event started at 12pm and is being held in Leyton Manor Park, Capworth Street.

It will finish at 7pm.
