SHOPPERS are warned not to buy a brand of peanut butter after council inspectors in nearby Newham seized and destroyed 200 containers of potentially harmful food.
The butter, which has the label Active Ground Paste, is manufactured in Ghana by a company called Jesu Aka and distributed in the UK by Marduro.
It is sold widely in Afro Caribbean shops and contains high levels of aflatoxins, which have been linked with cancer.
The dangerous peanut butter was seized in the Green Street area of Newham, but it is believed there could be many more containers circulating in the surrounding area, including neighbouring boroughs.
Anybody with concerns about the product in Waltham Forest should contact the council on 8496 3000.
