DOZENS of determined youngsters ignored the overcast weather on Sunday to enjoy an afternoon of fun and games in the grounds of Valentines Mansion.
Children from across Redbridge turned out in force to take part in the inaugural Valentines Park Summer Sports Day - trying their hand at a wide range of energetic activities in the historic building’s picturesque gardens.
Coaches were on hand to offer expert guidance in a variety of events, from football and cricket, to volleyball and boxercise, with many children having a go at certain sports for the very first time.
Tony Farrell, of Wanstead Park Road, Redbridge, took his son, Billy, 7, and three-year-old daughter Sara to the event.
He said: “It was a total blast, and the kids enjoyed every minute. Billy was running around trying out everything, but Sara was happy just practicing with the hulahoop - so there was something for all the kids to enjoy.
“The weather wasn’t perfect, but the children didn’t seem to mind. All they were interested in was learning how to play new games and having a good time.
“There were lots of things for them to try their hand at, so all I had to do was stand back and let them get on with it, which was great.
“It’s been a dismal summer overall in terms of the weather, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a bit of fun outdoors.”
