A LEADING councillor has called for the re-opening of a railway line between Chingford and Stratford.
Cllr Terry Wheeler, enterprise and investment cabinet member, recently met London Mayor Boris Johnson to demand that the re-opening of the Hall Farm Curve is included in a Network Rail spending projects between 2014 and 2019.
He said: “I reminded him just how important it is that Chingford and Walthamstow residents are able easily to commute to all the jobs and opportunities being provided at the Olympic Park, Stratford City, and rail interchanges as a result of Government led investment.”
Cllr Wheeler is also calling for the re-opening of Lea Bridge Road station, which closed in 1985.
Campaigners have been calling for the re-opening of the line in time for the 2012 Olympics.
The Hall Farm Curve closed in 1967.
