NEW trains with wider aisles and bigger seats are due to be rolled out across east London next year.
Commuters in Wanstead Flats and Manor Park will benefit from eight Tube-style, diesel Bombardier carriages on the Gospel Oak to Barking line in 2010.
They will feature wider doors, air conditioning and better CCTV, as well as dedicated wheelchair bays and real-time information via announcements and on-board screens.
Transport for London claims that the trains, which cost £223million, are designed to be ten times more reliable that those currently on the track.
In all, 54 will be rolled out across the network by 2011, with the Richmond to Stratford route being among the first to receive them.
Twenty have been earmarked for the East London Line extension across the Thames, and by 2011, following platform extensions, all carriages on the services will be four cars, instead of three.
