OVERNIGHT work to replace and maintain water mains alongside the A414 between Ongar and North Weald overran on Wednesday, January 21, causing jams in the morning rush hour.
Work started on the stretch of road last week and contractors for Three Valleys Water are working at night to avoid disruption on the busy main road.
The problems came when workmen thought an abandoned main was still live and had to wait for checks to be carried out.
The temporary traffic lights were removed at 9am, two hours later than planned.
