A SCANNING device used to clone cash cards has been found at a supermarket ATM.
Police discovered the device at Waitrose, in Queen's Road, Buckhurst Hill, last Friday (July 30).
The device is used by criminal gangs to scan people's cards when they are inserted into the machine. A tiny camera is placed above the key pad to read the pin number as it is typed in.
Epping Forest district commander Chief Inspector Alan Ray said: “Thankfully nobody was a victim on this occasion, but it is clear there are criminals out there who wish to part innocent people with their hard earned cash. We will continue to work closely with the council’s Safer Communities Department and bank staff to warn people.”
“When using a cash machine please always check it prior to use and always be aware of your surroundings. If you notice anything suspicious, report it to the bank immediately or call the police.”
