FIREFIGHTERS are planning protests over working conditions.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in London have ruled out a full strike, but are considering only carrying out tasks specified in their job descriptions.

The FBU claims its members have suffered ‘a sustained period of aggression” from managers over changes to working practices.

A union spokesman said there is a culture of ‘railroading’ through changes without consulting the workforce.

He added that the union is reluctant to take industrial action.

Brian Coleman of London’s fire authority said the planned action was unnecessary and warned firefighters that they would loose pay if they refuse to carry out additional tasks.
