It is so often we see letters complaining about Waltham Forest Council, I felt I had to write to say thank you to them.
I went to Walthamstow Market last Saturday, something I have not been able to do for several months. The bus ride there was made all the nicer by the beautiful display of flowers in containers at nearly every junction en route. The sun was out, the flowers were blooming, it was very pleasant – thank you to whoever is in charge of this feature.
At the market I was delighted to see the ugly hoardings had been taken down, the space opened up and activities for children in place. Someone was singing and there was lots of fun and laughter. It was a very pleasant and happy site.
Further down, at the square, hundreds of people were happily sitting down on the grass enjoying the July sunshine, relaxed and happy. The large screen was displaying the athletics championships.
All down the market the little cafés had placed chairs and tables al fresco with sun umbrellas. I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a cake and watched the crowds milling throughout the market area.
This was a truly enjoyable experience and the market really does show Walthamstow at its best. Very well done to all concerned and please do keep it up.
