THE woman who died in tragic accident in a lift has been named.
Grandmother Christine Allen, 50, of Apollo Place, Leytonstone, was killed as she got into the lift after visiting her grandchildren in Lambourne Court on the Orchard Estate in Woodford Green on Saturday.
Her daughter Laura Dawkins, 26, told the Daily Mail that the lift in the flats where she lives had been out of action for months and she had repeatedly reported this to the council.
The grandmother become trapped between the lift and the outer door just after midnight on Saturday.
Crews from Woodford, Chingford and Edmonton tried for nearly an hour to release her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Health and Safety Executive is conducting preliminary inquiries but police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
