Police are appealing for witnesses to an apparently unprovoked attack that left a young man needing 18 stitches to his face on Saturday (August 1).
The man, 21, from Waltham Abbey was walking home with a female friend, past the BP garage on Sewardstone Road at around 1:30am-2:30am.
The couple noticed two other men on the other side of the road, one of whom called out to them.
The man then crossed the road and cut the victims left cheek with an unknown implement.
Two 19-year-old women who were driving past, stopped and called ambulance and police, they stayed with the man until emergency services attended.
The victim went to hospital where he received 18 stitches to his face.
The two men are described as white men, 5ft 3ins to 5ft 6ins tall, possibly in their early 20s and of a slim build. The suspect had short dark gelled hair, wearing blue jeans and a light coloured T-shirt.
Anyone with any information are asked to contact Pc Dawn Barrett at Waltham Abbey police station on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
