A FAMILY fun day is to be held in memory of a former Leyton County cricket player who died of cancer.
The Robert Miller Memorial Fun Day is to take place on August 16 from 9am and will also raise funds for cancer research.
The day will include free cricket coaching for children under 16 between 9am and 11am, as a well as a charity match between Leyton and the West Indies Cricket Supporters' Association (WICSA).
Many of the players on the WICSA side are former members of the Leyton club who have gone on to play professionally.
Errol Francis, chairman of Leyton County Cricket Club, said: “We have an event for Robert every year.
“One of the reasons for involving the kids is it's a means to get them more into sports. It's a further opportunity to get them involved from an early age.”
The day, to be held at the Leyton cricket ground, in Crawley Road, will also include food and drink, as well as music and a bouncy castle.
Events begin at 9am and are expected to finish by 10pm. Entry is free but donations to cancer research are requested.
