A resident living close to a main road has spoken of his shock after returning from holiday to find a 20 foot telegraph pole in his front garden.
Barry Holman, 60, from Ongar Road, Abridge said he was "flabbergasted" to discover the telegraph pole planted firmly in his front drive after returning from a weekend break.
Neighbours explained to a confused Mr Holman that a car had left the busy main road on Sunday evening (August 9) outside his home before careering into the pole, snapping it in two.
He said: "The driver really must have been doing some speed, I didn't even know you could snap one of these things in two.
"I was completely stumped, I just stood there thinking, what on earth has happened here? How did that get here?
"At first I thought it might be some kind of joke until my neighbour told me what had happened.
"The bumper of the car was also in my garden."
