Thieves on motorbikes stole thousands of pounds from a Securicor driver after threatening him with a knife this afternoon (Thursday August 13).
No one was injured during the robbery, which took place at the Tesco petrol station on Sewardstone road, shortly before 12:30pm.
Two men on a Yamaha motorbike threatened the driver of the van with a knife, forcing him to hand over tens of thousands, although police are still trying to work out the total sum taken.
The two men sped away on the motorbike, which was stolen and had false number plates, before dumping it nearby on a footpath between Sewardstone Road and Beechfield Walk.
Police believed the two men drove off in a small, old style red van.
The two robbers are described as both white, wearing black jackets and helmets, one jacket had a motif on the back and one man was also wearing grey trouser bottoms.
Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the robbery, knows any information about the exchange of vehicles, or may have seen men acting suspiciously around the area in the time leading up to the robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Waltham Abbey on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Guardian understands that police are currently reviewing CCTV images from the station and interviewing staff and witnesses.
