TWO intrepid staff from Whipps Cross University Hospital are to take on the task of trekking through the Himalayas for charity.
In aid of Wellbeing of Women (WoW), senior sister Shirley Bridge and healthcare support worker Paula Hurrell will be undertaking the gruelling trek next year.
They will brave the risk of illnesses such as malaria and altitude sickness and even risk attacks by wild monkeys during their trip to the north eastern province of Himachal Pradesh.
Ms Bridge said: “We're doing this once in a lifetime trek to raise money for WoW.
“WoW will invest in medical research and develop the roles of specialist doctors and nurses working in the field of gynaecology and reproductive health.”
They have already raised £5,355, with a target of £6,400 to reach before their trip, which will take place from April 17 to 26 and requires intense physical training.
Ms Hurrell added: “Walking the corridor of Whipps every day can only help our training programme.”
Both women have had close friends and colleagues with gynaecological problems, who were supported by WoW.
They feel WoW is “incredibly worthwhile” and want to highlight how important its work is through their trek.
