THE cardiology department at Whipps Cross University Hospital has benefited from the donation of two new heart monitors.
Generous GP Dr Abdul Sheikh, who works at the Queens Road surgery in Walthamstow, raised the money to buy the monitors, which follow patients' heart rhythms.
Maria Arrow, who is the senior chief cardiac physiologist in the cardiology department, said: “If people are suffering from palpitations or black outs, they wear this monitor and we can see what's going on.
“There's a lot of demand for them and there was quite a long waiting list. Now we have more monitors, we can see to more patients.”
Working with the Waltham Forest Muslim Trust, Dr Sheikh raised about £4,000 to buy the monitors.
A special presentation to celebrate the donation will be made at the hospital on August 27.
