A GROUP trying to save Waltham Forest College pool is in discussions with potential operators about saving the facility.
Friends of the Pool (FotP) believes running the pool, in Forest Road, can be made financially viable.
FotP member Alec Dick, of Brooke Road, Walthamstow, said: “We would like somebody to come in and operate the pool with us to give it a longer life.”
Mr Dick did not reveal which companies the friends have approached.
Waltham Forest College intended to close the pool two years ago but a council-brokered, part- subsidised deal with Greenwich Leisure Ltd gave it a reprieve.
An expected redevelopment of the college, which would have seen the pool demolished, did not happen for financial reasons.
The pool will close at the beginning of next month unless a solution is found.
The college does not have the funds to keep it open and council leader Chris Robbins has ruled out a subsidy from the taxpayer.
