A 19-year-old woman was killed in Ongar last night (Monday August 17) after an articulated lorry overturned onto her car on the A414.
The crash, which took place shortly after 7:30pm on the Epping Road saw a white articulated lorry hit a grey Ford KA which then hit a black Skoda Fabia.
The lorry, travelling in the direction of Chelmsford overturned on top of the KA which was travelling in the opposite direction and then skidded colliding with the Fabia.
The 19-year-old driver of the KA, from South Woodham Ferrers, was cut free from her vehicle by the fire service and taken by ambulance to Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Skoda, a 64-year-old man from Chelmsford, was taken by ambulance to PAH with a fractured wrist and other cuts and bruises.
The driver of the lorry, a 54-year-old man from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released on police bail to return to Harlow police station on October 13.
The road was closed while police tried to clear the debris from the road, it had now reopened.
They are appealing to witnesses to the smash.
