ENGLAND footballer Jermain Defoe has been pulled over by Essex Police again, despite announcing this week that he was considering suing them for wrongful arrest.

Mr Defoe, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, was driving a black Ferrari in Chigwell on Sunday ( August 16) after visiting his mother, who lives locally.

Police stopped and questioned Mr Defoe, who has been stopped twice in the district in four weeks.

Just three days before Mr Defoe announced he would be taking legal action against Essex Police over a separate pull-over on July 27.

Mr Defoe, was driving down Woodridden Hill, in Waltham Abbey when officers pulled him over claiming he was driving while disqualified.

Mr Defoe had been handed a driving ban earlier this month for speeding on the M11 at Chigwell, but that was suspended after he launched an appeal.

Despite the star's protestations he was taken to Harlow Police station and locked in a cell before being released without charge more than six hours later.

His solicitor Nick Freeman confirmed he has been ordered to start proceedings against Essex Police.

He said Sunday's search "beggared belief", adding: "He added: "At best, this is a cock-up. At worst, it smacks of something far more sinister.

"Mr Defoe was stopped for no reason after leaving his mother's house."

But a police spokesman said that Defoe was stopped in Chigwell as part of a routine operation to tackle a spate of burglaries and thefts of high-powered cars.
