A LEYTON woman is to wear a wedding dress for a day in a bid to raise cash for Diabetes UK.
Maria Perridge, 45, of Vicarage Road, will don a wedding gown on August 28 and will wear it all day, including at work and on public transport.
She said: “In the evening, we're going to the Walnut Tree House club in Jesse Road. There's going to be music and dancing, and quizzes and raffles – lots of ways to donate.”
Mrs Perridge will be wearing the same wedding dress she wore for the event last year, which cost her just £30 from a Leyton discount store.
She added: “I've already had Cllr Bob Sullivan give me £20 and I've spoken to him about going up and down the street, asking for donations.”
So far, Mrs Perridge has raised just under £100 for Diabetes UK, which is the only major charity in Britain dedicated to diabetes.
Last year, she managed to raise more than £600 and hopes to better her total this year.
“I've bought a big bucket for donations, rather than the tin Diabetes UK gave me,” she said.
