A LOVE-STRUCK vicar is to finally settle down and marry - nearly two years after the Guardian launched a campaign to help him find a wife.
Rev Robert Hampson, of the Holy Trinity Church in Hermon Hill, attracted nationwide media attention back in January 2008 when we put out an appeal for women in the borough to go on a date with the dashing but lonely 6ft Essex boy.
The ensuing months saw a string of ladies lining up to meet one of Redbridge's most eligible bachelors, as the reverend was catapulted into the spotlight.
But now the Guardian can reveal Rev Hampson and his girlfriend of one year have decided this week to take the plunge and tie the knot.
Rev Hampson said: "We made the decision on Tuesday.
"We're both very excited and happy. I think the Guardian has been instrumental in this and it may not have happened otherwise."
Rev Hampson, originally from Upminster in Essex, went on a number of dates in early 2008 as he searched to find "the one" until he finally found his future fiancée in the summer.
