THE Highams Park Tesco development is not aimed at local people like myself that actually live in the area.
Highams Park is a small area which has its own special village-like feel to it.
Here in Highams Park we already have a Costcutter and Budgens supermarket and a variety of mini markets in Hale End Road and Winchester Road.
In addition to this, there are already two Sainsbury’s stores and a Morrisons store in Chingford so the area is already well served.
This proposed development is obviously aimed at a much wider, car-driving catchment area.
These people are already well served with large supermarkets which will be far easier to get to due to our network of already overcrowded small roads.
This development will be a disaster for those of us that actually live in the locality as there is bound to be a massive increase in traffic and pollution.
In addition, our small local shops our bound to suffer as they will not be able to compete with Tesco’s massive buying power.
