A PLAN to build a 32-bedroom hotel near a junction with one of the busiest roads in Walthamstow has been slammed by angry residents.

The proposal will see the building, in Cedars Avenue, which currently contains flats and kitchens for a restaurant, extended and converted into a hotel.

The building is behind shops on Hoe Street, just yards from Walthamstow Central railway station.

Residents believe the plan, if it gets permission, will lead to parking problems and extra noise and litter.

They are also concerned that as Cedars Avenue is a one-way street, there will be traffic problems.

More than 60 residents in surrounding streets have signed a petition against the development.

Hasnain Syed , 36, of Cedars Avenue said: “Nobody wants this, it is not an appropriate place for a hotel at all.

“We are concerned about all the extra vehicles, and there is already quite a lot of litter in the street."

Another Cedars Avenue resident, Javed Azam, who is also a Lib Dem activist, said: “From our perspective we just want a quiet street, and we don't think this is the right place for a hotel.”

The applicants are listed as a Mr A Shahed and Naveed.

The application will come before councillors on the planning committee sometime in the next few months.
