THE death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist has led to calls for measures to prevent speeding.
The fatal crash at 11.40am on Friday (August 21) is the third accident in Hatch Lane, Chingford, in two weeks and Conservative Cllr Graham Sinclair, who lives in the street, wants action.
He said: “I am very concerned especially because somebody has now died. There needs to be mini-roundabouts or road narrowing to prevent further deaths.”
Cllr Sinclair called for the introduction of a mini-roundabout at Hatch Lane’s junctions with Connington Crescent and New Road.
The dead man has not been formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed.
A people carrier was involved in a head-on collision with a Golf GTI as it turned into Connington Crescent on August 19.
A man was treated for minor injuries after a crash in New Road at 10am on Friday, August 14.
There have been eight accidents where people have been injured in Hatch Lane in the last 36 months.
The council will meet with the police at Hatch Lane to see if anything can be done to reduce the likelihood of fatal accidents in the street.
