A MAN was knocked unconscious and several others left covered in blood during a mass brawl in Wanstead High Street last night.

At least ten people were involved in the fight, which started outside Bar Room Bar at around 11.30pm.

It is believed an argument broke out after a man was asked to leave the popular drinking venue by a bouncer.

Witnesses said two groups of young men became involved in the fight, which also left three bouncers injured after trying to diffuse the situation.

One man was hit over the head with a bin, and another, believed to be a doorman at Bar Room Bar, was knocked unconscious.

As the fight spilled out further into the street, at least two more people became involved, with fights continuing down the High Street towards the George Pub.

When police arrived several men made their escape through the George's beer garden and ran off in the direction of Eastern Avenue.

One witness, 24, was drinking in the bar when the fight broke out.

He said: "I'd say there were at least five or six people in one of the groups, three bouncers and then another handful of people involved.

"There was so much blood everywhere, punching, kicking, everything. There were some guys who got really beaten up."

Another witness said: "There were loads of people injured. It's the biggest brawl I've ever seen in Wanstead."

A music night at Bar Room Bar, which had been taking place when the fight broke out, was cancelled as stunned drinkers watched the drama unfold.

A police spokeswoman said five men were arrested at the scene for a variety of public order offences including being drunk and disorderly.
