Children visiting the district museum got the chance to find out how youngsters in Tudor times enjoyed themselves before the invention of the X-Box.
It was part of the Museum's summer programme of historical-themed free fundays.
The Tudor playday showed young visitors that the most popular game in the 1500's was the cup and ball, a modern variation of which can still be seen today.
Children made their own versions, and learnt more Tudor games they could play at home.
District Museum Education and outreach officer Cath Hammond said it was extremely popular.
She said:" We had about 87 children attend on the day. "We're really trying to get them out and about being creative with play."
The next event will be a special free day to look at Victorian toys, held at the museum on Sun Street, Waltham Abbey tomorrow (Tuesday August 25) from 12pm.
