REPORTS are coming in of an attempted armed robbery on a post office in Woodford Green this morning.

As many as five men are believed to have taken part in the raid on the branch in Snakes Lane East between 9am and 9.30am.

It is thought that a gun was used but there are no reports of any shots being fired.

Abdul Qayum who runs a dry cleaners nearby said: “I saw the police arrive with about five or six cars.

"I’m a regular customer and I go there every morning. A few days ago someone came in with a knife."

A neighbour living opposite said: “I’m surprised it happened at 9am because there’s usually quite a long queue at that time and the children are on their school holidays.”

It is thought that the raiders escaped empty-handed.
