A MOTORCYCLIST who died in a motorway crash near Epping has been named as the father of West Ham player Jack Collison.
Ian Collison, 46 from Mendip Way, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was apparently on his way to watch his son play against Tottenham at Upton Park when his red Honda crashed close to the M11 interchange.
An air ambulance was called just before noon on Sunday (August 23) but Mr Collison was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 20-year-old son only found out about his father's death later on due to difficulties in establishing his next of kin.
A spokeswoman for West Ham said: “Our thoughts are with Jack and his family and we ask people to respect his privacy at a very difficult time for them.”
Investigations have already been carried out at the scene, where major works are taking place to widen the M25.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information should contact investigating officer PC Mark Hibbert at Chigwell Road Policing Unit on 0300 333 4444.
