THE family of a woman believed to be the oldest person in Redbridge have paid tribute to her following her death at the age of 106.

Jane Dall, a resident of Chestnuts Nursing Home in Cambridge Park, Wanstead, passed away last Monday (August 17) after suffering from a chest infection.

Mrs Dall, who marked her last birthday in July, told the Guardian at the time she felt she had lived a long and happy life.

Daughter Edna Lawson, 81, of Hermitage Court in South Woodford, said: "She was such a lovely lady.

“Her family was her life, that was the most important thing. She loved everyone very much and we all loved her.”

"The home looked after her very well and she was very happy there.”

Her grandson David Lawson said: "We are of course all very sad but she had a very good innings."

Mrs Dall, who is thought to be one of the oldest people in London, if not Britain, told the Guardian last month that she believed her longevity was down to the fact that she had never owned a car and walked "everywhere" to get around.

Originally from Scotland, Mrs Dall moved down to London following the untimely death of her husband Claude in 1941.

While Mrs Dall never remarried, she enjoyed a happy life in post-war Britain, working for the Telephone Manager's Office group, and transferring down to their London offices in the 1950s, where she worked until the age of 63.

After retiring, Mrs Dall lived briefly with her daughter in South Woodford, and also lived in Ilford, before settling in Wanstead.

Jane is survived by her daughter, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held tomorrow (Wednesday August 26) at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium in Aldersbrook.
