A MAN stabbed in a Woodford Green street has just come out of surgery and is in a stable condition in hospital today, as more details emerge about the brutal attack on him.
The man, who police say is aged 28 and not 27 as previously reported, was walking with his girlfriend along Snakes Lane East close to Woodford tube station at around 2.30am on Monday (August 24) when he was set upon.
Two men, described as black and aged between 20 and 30, approached the couple, demanding the woman give them her handbag.
When she refused, a struggle broke out, in which her boyfriend was knocked over the head and then pushed to the ground.
He was then stabbed three times in his leg, arm and hand.
His attackers then managed swipe £50 in cash and a mobile phone before running away.
The man was rushed to Whipps Cross Hospital.
However he was then transferred to Broomfield Hospital in Essex to have specialist surgery on his wounds.
A police spokeswoman said he is in a stable condition this lunchtime.
Police are currently examining CCTV footage which they believe may hold the key to their investigation, but they are also asking on the people of Woodford to help with their enquiries.
