STUDENTS at Wanstead High School are outraged as they claim they were misled over their A-level grades.

The sixth formers say ICT coursework at A2 was graded at A to D by the school but many ended up receiving E grades or below, dragging down their overall marks.

And 19-year-old Madni Chaudhary, of Endsleigh Gardens, Ilford, believes the discrepancy caused him to miss out on a place studying law at King's College London.

He said: “I was getting As and Bs but in the final results, I got an E. I think that's not right.

“The GCSE results are coming out on Thursday and I want to warn people doing ICT.”

He is now set to attend Westminster University but classmate Muraly Kuhan, who also missed the grades he needed, is still waiting for a place through clearing.

Muraly, 19, of McEntee Avenue, Walthamstow hoped to get into Nottingham University to study journalism and is now waiting to hear from Manchester University.

“Every time I check my status through UCAS, it still says pending,” he said.

“We don't know if it's the examining board or the school.”

He added that almost everyone in the class, made up of 12 students, was affected.

Thauheed Hussain, 18, of Woodland Avenue, Wanstead, managed to achieve the grades he needed to get into Queen Mary University but added: “It could easily have affected my application.

“One student was 10 UCAS points away from getting into university.”

A spokeswoman for AQA, the examining body responsible for the students' final grades, said: “We are not aware of any problems with the A-level ICT papers.

"Our advice to any teachers who are unhappy with their students' results is to use our Enquiries About Results service in the usual manner.”

A spokeswoman for the council said: "The Council will be asking the school to investigate the matter and to feedback the outcome of the investigation to us as a matter of urgency.”
